The White Labrador Retriever is the star of this month’s Breed About It.
Truthfully, there is no such thing as a “white lab.” White Labradors are technically Yellow Labradors with a very light coat.
Puppies of all colors can occur in the same litter, as coat color is the product of several different genes: some dominant, some recessive.
Most white Labradors have stark white coats and black pigmentation around the eyes and nose.
The rarest form of White Labrador is the so-called “Dudley Lab”, which has a white coat but no nose or eye pigmentation. Their nose and eyes are “pink as the day they were born”.
True Dudley Labs are very rare, and the unique coloring occurs thanks to a special genetic mutation. Other labs with light (but still pigmented) noses and eyes occasionally try to pass for Dudleys.
In my expert opinion, white lab puppies are some of the cutest puppies on the planet. Watch this video of cute white lab puppies playing around and let me know if you agree. Which puppies to you feel are the cutest?
Would you ever consider a white lab?
